Every Protector Has a Beginning.
Intrepid Firearms Academy was built to guide ordinary people into confident, capable protectors—safely, patiently, and without ego.
Our GREAT PURPOSE
Preparing the Protector In each of us
At Intrepid Firearms Academy, our Great Purpose is to prepare the protector in each of us. Intrepid Firearms Academy exists to prepare good people to prevail when confronted with violence. Our purpose is to develop protectors—ordinary citizens who take responsibility for their own safety and the safety of those they love.
We teach the skills, judgment, and discipline required to meet deadly force with lawful, decisive force of your own. That includes more than marksmanship. It means understanding when to act, when not to act, and how to make clear, rational decisions under pressure.
Our role is to guide people through that process—step by step, without ego, pressure, or bravado. We teach with professionalism, patience, and a genuine desire to see students grow. Our purpose is simple: to help good people become capable protectors in a world that sometimes requires it.

R. Ian Davis
Chief Instructor
Ian Davis serves as Intrepid’s Chief Instructor and is the guiding force behind the academy’s training philosophy. A retired business executive, Ian spent decades leading training and development initiatives inside Fortune 200 and Fortune 500 companies. Long before he stepped onto a firing line, he understood the weight of responsibility carried by protectors.
In his forties, Ian merged his professional background as a developer of people with a growing personal commitment to responsible firearms training. He studied broadly—as a student, as an instructor, and eventually as one of the region’s most active Training Counselors, certifying other instructors and shaping how they teach.
Since Intrepid’s earliest beginnings in 2017, Ian has continued to refine the academy’s curriculum with the same steady values he brings to every class: safety, clarity, patience, and a deep respect for the people who step forward to train.

Cristian (Cris) Dlesk
Associate Instructor
Cristian Dlesk represents the next generation of confident, humble protectors. Already holding a significant leadership role at Amazon at a remarkably young age, Cris brings quiet professionalism and maturity to every training engagement.
Cris is following the same developmental pathway Ian followed—but much earlier in life. He holds multiple USCCA instructor certifications and is steadily expanding his credentials. Students appreciate his calm presence, his attentiveness, and the way he models responsibility without ego.
Intrepid is strengthened by Cris’s character as much as his skill, and he is already making a meaningful impact in the lives of students.

Ian Warren
Adjunct Instructor
Ian Warren is an Adjunct Instructor with Intrepid and an integral member of the academy’s Non-Lethal Program. He also supports Intrepid’s specialty offerings such as Vehicle Defense Tactics and 2–3 Man Room Clearing.
Professionally, Ian serves as a Officer in the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation & Correction, where he leads multiple tactical response teams and operates as a Firearms Instructor for the department. He is also a talented competitive shooter whose measured approach and technical knowledge elevate every class he's part of.
Ian brings a balance of real-world operational experience and patient instruction that fits seamlessly within Intrepid’s culture of safety and respect.

Toni J. Davis, ESQ.
Adjunct Instructor
Toni Davis serves as an Adjunct Instructor with Intrepid while also practicing as a full-time attorney and Managing Partner of one of Pittsburgh’s most well-established law firms.
Toni started shooting as a little 6 year old girl when she perched her grandfathers 30-30 on his shoulder as she learned to shoot at coffee cans in Grandpa's back yard.
Toni brings intellect, professionalism, and a thoughtful approach to responsible firearms training. Her ability to communicate clearly, listen well, and connect with students adds depth to the academy’s instructional team. She models the idea that protectors come from all walks of life—not just tactical backgrounds.

Richard (Rich) Saphore
Adjunct Instructor
Rich Saphore is actually Major Richard Saphore, US Army (ret), having served almost 3 decades on behalf of our nation. Rich is on careers #2 and# 3 as a civilian contractor to the US Air Force and an Adjunct Instructor with Intrepid FIrearms Academy, respectively. In his capacity with the USAF, Rich leads all civil engineering efforts at the Air Force 911th Air Refueling Wing located at Pittsburgh International Airport.
Rich brings decades of experience and a lifelong commitment to protecting others when evil rears its head. It’s what Rich was born to do.
